UEPLAC participated in the Seminar on public procurement in Ukraine |
On 18 July 2008 the World Bank, UEPLAC and USAID/TIBA Project jointly organised a Seminar on public procurement in Ukraine. The goal of the seminar was to present to the Ukrainian mass media the internationally acknowledged standards of government procurement and to discuss with the journalists the legislative reform, which is underway in Ukraine after the Verhovna Rada abolished the Law on Public Procurement in April 2008. The law was strongly criticised both by the local and international experts, businessmen and governmental institutions and currently a new draft law, prepared by the Cabinet of Ministers is being prepared for the second reading by the Parliament.
UEPLAC was represented at the seminar by Mr. Valentin Dereviankin, the UEPLAC expert in Internal Market and Trade Related Reforms, who dedicated his presentation to the development stages of public procurement system in the EU, to the principles and major elements of the legal framework established under the Public Procurement Directives (2004/18/EC and 2004/17/EC).
